ABSTRACT

It is possible to cultivate common beans for a third harvest in one agricultural year due to varietal characteristics. For calendar adequacy, performing desiccation and planting often occur almost simultaneously. Germination performance of many plant species can improve with biostimulant use on seeds, however the interaction with herbicide residual molecules is unknown. The hypothesis is that seeds treated with a biostimulant in soil with glyphosate residues can eliminate the advantage of the biostimulant or increase the damage caused by the herbicide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different glyphosate reduce doses and the interaction with biostimulant on bean seed germination and vigor. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized 2 x 5 factorial block designing factorial 2 x 5, corresponding to the presence and absence of biostimulant and five different doses of glyphosate reduce rates, with four repetitions. The conducted evaluations were first count germination, germination test, accelerated aging, cold test, root and shoot length, root and shoot dry matter and electrical conductivity. It can be concluded that the biostimulant treatment on bean seeds increased germination, seed vigor and early seedling growth, but glyphosate presence reduced those advantages, increasing electrical conductivity. However, the herbicide presence provided higher germination on the accelerated aging test.


Devido às características de variedades de feijoeiro comum, é possível seu cultivo como terceira safra em um ano agrícola. Para adequação ao calendário, a prática de dessecação e plantio muitas vezes ocorrem quase simultaneamente. A utilização de bioestimulantes em sementes pode aumentar o desempenho germinativo de diversas espécies de plantas, no entanto a sua interação com moléculas residuais de herbicidas é desconhecido. A hipótese é que o uso de sementes tratadas com bioestimulante em solos com resíduos de glifosato pode eliminar as vantagens do primeiro ou amentar os danos causados pelo herbicida. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de subdoses de glifosato e bioestimulante em sementes de feijoeiro. O experimento foi realizado em blocos inteiramente casualizados em fatorial 2x5, correspondendo a ausência e presença de bioestimulante e cinco subdoses de glifosato, com quatro repetições. As avaliações foram primeira contagem de germinação, teste de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, teste de frio, comprimento de parte aérea e de raiz, massa seca de parte aérea e de raiz e condutividade elétrica. Conclui-se que o tratamento de sementes de feijoeiro com bioestimulante eleva a germinação, o vigor de sementes e o crescimento inicial de plântulas, porém a presença de glifosato elimina essas vantagens, revelando maior condutividade elétrica. No entanto, a presença do herbicida proporciona maior germinação no teste de envelhecimento acelerado.

ABSTRACT

Conventional Western medicine (CWM) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have different approaches and lead to different practices in experimental design, research methodology, regulation, and standards. TCM emphasizes on the optimal or holistic health. In contrast, CWM is an allopathic medicine primarily based on anatomy, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and modern technology, and rejects the concept of invisible substances and quantum entanglement. Consequently, CWM emphasizes on abnormal lab tests or obvious diseases. In the early 1970s, TCM and acupuncture quickly emerged as an alternative to CWM as Westerners explored new TCM concepts while questioning the side effects of CWM. Many countries accept traditional acupuncture as a legal alternative medical practice. Some CWM physicians nowadays are more enthusiastic and are receptive to learning and practicing acupuncture. The common goal of CWM and TCM is to enhance human health, but problems arise over differences in approach. As a response to some Western journal papers that failed to validate the real acupuncture effect because of their incorrect methodologies and their ignorance of the holistic acupuncture approaches, the authors hereby present a group of case studies to demonstrate the real and unique effects of genuine acupuncture. The objective was to explore the clinical effects of acupuncture for knee pain. Thirty-six patients with knee pain were divided into five groups based on age. Holistic TCM diagnosis was performed at the beginning of each case and then made a personalized acupuncture treatment prescription according to the root of illness found by the diagnosis. The symptoms and signs were recorded before and after every treatment, and the treatment effects were assessed based upon the self-reported feeling and the observed changes of the patient following the numeric rating scale (NRS). The results were summarized after the completion of the minimal 5 acupuncture treatments or the standard 10 acupuncture treatments. Among the 36 patients who participated in the cases studies, 17 patients reported a complete healing for knee pain (47.2%). About 60 kinds of illness other than knee pain were improved (98.9%) and the complete healing rate was about 44.2%. This leads to the conclusion that TCM acupuncture is remarkably effective in treating knee pain. TCM and CWM share a common goal in promoting the health of human being. The efficacy of TCM acupuncture in treating knee pain shouldn't be denied or distorted.

ABSTRACT

The priming is a technique that involves the controlled hydration of seeds up to allows the start of germination preparatory processes without permit radicle protrusion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different procedures of priming on physiological potential of rice seeds. Seeds of rice cultivars Puita Inta Inov CL and CL, each represented by a lot were used. The treatments consisted of: control, hydropriming, priming with Stimulate®, boric acid solution and zinc sulfate solution, with four replications. Prior to priming, the seeds hydration curves were determining. After priming, the seeds evaluated for germination, seedling growth, efficiency of use of the endosperm, germination at lowest temperatures and seedling emergence. Priming procedures used in this study does not improve rice seed physiological potential, of cultivars Puita Inta CL and Inov Cl. Seed priming with boric acid has a negative effect on seed performance.


o condicionamento fisiológico é uma técnica que envolve a hidratação controlada das sementes que permite o início de processos de preparação para a germinação sem permitir que ocorra a protrusão da raiz. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes procedimentos de condicionamento fisiológico no potencial fisiológico de sementes de arroz. Foram utilizadas sementes de arroz das cultivares Puita Inta CL e Inov CL, representadas por um lote cada. Os tratamentos consistiram de: controle, hidrocondicionamento, condicionamento com Stimulate®, com solução de ácido bórico e solução de sulfato de zinco, com quatro repetições. Previamente ao condicionamento, foram realizadas as curvas de hidratação. Após o condicionamento, as sementes foram avaliadas quanto à germinação, crescimento de plântulas, eficiência do uso do endosperma, germinação a baixas temperaturas e emergência das plântulas. Os procedimentos de condicionamento utilizados neste estudo não melhoraram o potencial fisiológico das sementes de arroz das cultivares de Puita Inta CL e Inov Cl. O condicionamento fisiológico de sementes de arroz com ácido bórico tem efeito negativo sobre o desempenho das sementes.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the characteristics of auditory nerves and brainstem pathways,patho-physiological and nerve damages and the correlation between oxygen indexes,and the values of high stimulation ABR in patients with OSAHS.Methods Auditory brain stem responses (ABR)at rates of 11.1 times/s,31.1 times/s,51.1 times/s were performed in both the moderate-to-severe OSAHS group(5 cases of moderate and 34 cases of severe,in total of 39 cases ,78 ears)and the control group (34 cases,68 ears).According to the character-istics of ABR,the correlation with parameters of blood oxygen was studied.Results At the rate of 11.1 times/s, wave V latencies (5.79±0.22 ms)in OSAHS patients were longer than that in the control group.At the rate of 31.1 times/s,wave V latencies (5.98±0.19 ms)and waveⅠ(1.85±0.18 ms)in OSAHS patients were prolonged more than those in the control group.At the rate of 51.1 times/s,wave V latencies (6.09±0.25 ms)and waveⅠ(1.94±0.26 ms)in OSAHS patients were longer than those in the control group.Increasing stimulation rates from 11.1 times/s to 31.1 times/s showedΔⅠwas longer in OSAHS group(0.12±0.17 ms)than in the control group (0.07±0.11 ms).Increasing stimulation rates from 11.1 times/s to 51.1 times/s showedΔⅠwas longer in OS-AHS group(0.21±0.25 ms)than in the control group(0.15±0.10 ms).All above had correlations with hypoxia. Conclusion High stimulation rates in ABR by amplifying the waveⅠ latency confirm cochlear and auditory nerve damages near the cochlear segment in patients with moderate to severe OSAHS.Therefore the study of nerve injury in OSAHS patients should take blood oxygen saturation and hypoxia percentage rather than AHI.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study to assess relationship between the dental caries status and growth indices among 3-year-old children of Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia. The caries prevalence and mean dmft, dmfs score of all children were 94.3% and 8.3±4.8, 11.1±8.6 (p0.05). Children with high salivary flow rate were 3.2% in central kindergarten and 0% in peripheral. The mean±SD of body weight (p0.05) of boys were 15.2±2.2kg and 97.0±6.0cm, of gils 15.9±1.9kg and 97.6±5.8cm, of caries free children 15.9±1.5kg аnd 97.0±5.4cm, and of children with caries 15.6±2.1kg and 97.4±5.4cm (p>0.05), respectively. Children of peripheral kindergarten were lower by 1,4kg and 3.4cm than central (p<0.001). There were the weak and negative correlation between dental caries and growth indices among 3-year-old children of Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of theta burst stimulation (TBS) paradigm of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rT-MS) on executive function in patients with chronic schizophrenia. Methods 60 patients meeting DSM-IV for chronic schizophrenia disor-ders criteria were enrolled. They were randomly divided into TBS group (n=30) and sham intervention group (n=30). They were assessed with digit span performance, space span performance and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) before and 4 weeks after intervention. Re-sults After intervention, the forward score of digit span performance, the total score and forward score of space span performance increased (P0.05). There was significant difference in all the items be-tween 2 groups after intervention (P<0.05). Conclusion TBS paradigm of rTMS could improve the executive function in schizophrenic pa-tients.

ABSTRACT

O aumento da procura no mercado de frutas frescas junto com a elevada cotação do suco de maracujá no mercado nacional e internacional fez crescer o interesse pela fruta, em especial o maracujá-roxo no centro sul do país visando a exportação. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar os efeitos de bioestimulante na emergência e desenvolvimento de plântulas de maracujazeiro 'Roxinho do Kênia' (Passiflora edulis Sims.) quando propagados de forma sexuada. Os tratamentos foram constituídos pelas concentrações do produto comercial Stimulate®: testemunha (sem bioestimulante); 6; 12; 18; 24 e 30 mL.kg-1 de sementes. Foram avaliadas a porcentagem de emergência de plântulas, número de folhas, massa seca da parte aérea, caule e raiz(g), comprimento da raiz (mm), diâmetro e comprimento do caule(mm), área foliar e clorofilas "a" e "b. A aplicação de bioestimulante nas doses de 6 e 12 mL.kg-1 promove o aumento da porcentagem de emergência de plântulas de Passiflora edulis Sims em um menor tempo. O uso do mesmo também promove o desenvolvimento das plântulas, com melhores resultados para as dose de 12 e 24 mL.kg-1 de sementes tratadas.


The increase in market demand for fresh fruits along with the high price of passion fruit juice in domestic and international markets has increased the interest in fruit, especially the purple passion fruit in the center south of the country seeking to export. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of plant growth regulator on the emergence and development of seedlings of passion 'Roxinho of Kenya' when propagated sexually. The treatments consisted of concentrations of commercial product Stimulate®: control (no biostimulant); 6; 12; 18; 24 and 30 mL.kg-1 of seed. It were evaluated the percentage of seedling emergence, number of leaves, aerial part dry weight, stem and root (g), root length (mm), diameter and stem length (mm), leaf area and chlorophyll 'a' and 'b'. The application of bio-stimulant in doses of 6 and 12 mL.kg-1 promotes increased percentage of seedling emergence of Passiflora edulis Sims in a shorter time. The use of it also promotes the development of seedlings, with better results for the dose of 12 and 24 mL.kg-1 treated seeds.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect of theta burst stimulation( TBS) paradigm of repetitive tran?scranial magnetic stimulation ( rTMS ) on the treatment of schizophrenia through assessing executive function. Methods 60 patients met with DSM?4 and ICD?10 for schizophrenia disorders criteria were enrolled in this study. The group was divided into theta burst stimulation group(research group, n=30) and sham intervention group ( control group, n=30) . The research group and control group were assessed with the Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST) and the go/no?go task by event?related potential(ERPs) before and after 4 weeks treatment. Each test results of all groups before and after treatment were compared with each other respectively. Results Regarding the WCST test,compared with the baseline,the post?rTMS state of the TBS group showed a decrease in the error selec?tion percentage((59.8±14.7)%),the preservative error number(55.3±18.0) and the preservative error percentage (71.3±12.6)%,but the percentage of conceptual level(71.3±12.6)% increased in the TBS group(P0.05).Conclusions The?ta burst stimulation paradigm of rTMS can improve the executive function in schizophrenic patients.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To establish an in vitro method to determine the biological activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa injection as an alternative to current animal tumor inhibition experiments. METHODS: With its significant immunogenicity and mitogenicity, PA-MSHA strain, the active ingredient of Pseudomonas aeruginosa injection, was directly added to and incubated with spleen cells isolated from BALB/c mice in vitro. MTT assay was conducted to assess the cell proliferation effect of PA-MSHA, and the stimulate index (SI) was used as an indicator to evaluate the biologic activity. The complete experiment system was explored by optimizing test conditions, then ten batches of Pseudomonas aeruginosa injection were tested for three times. RESULTS: When the dilution ratio of Pseudomonas aeruginosa injection was 1:200, all of the SIs were greater than 2.0, and the inter-batch coefficient of variations were 0.039-0.052. CONCLUSION: This method not only has good stability and high accuracy, but also saves the cost and time remarkably. Through the statistical analysis of test data, the preliminary eligible criteria of the biological activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa injection were also established.

ABSTRACT

Background The visual evoked potential (VEP) is an important functional index to assess visual cortex plasticity.Monocular form deprivation(MD) of rat is a classic model to study visual cortex plasticity change.Utilizing VEP technique record the shift of ocular dominance in adult rats model is of an important significance for explore the treating opportunities of amblyopia.Objective The present study was to observe the pattern VEP changes in different ages of Long-Evens rats and the adult rats after binocular form deprivation.Methods Thirty-six healthy SPF Long-Evens rats were divided into PW3,PW4,PW5,PW6 groups according to the postnatal weeks,and PW7 rats included 36 SPF Long-Evens rats.The left eye lids of the rats were sutured in PW3,PW6 and PW7 rats for 3,5,7 days respectively,and PVEP in both left and right eye were recorded to assess the rat age that visual cortex plasticity ended.Bilateral PVEP were recorded in PW7 rats,and the bilateral eyelids were sutured to establish the bilateral form deprivation models.The right eyes were opened in 7,10,14 days,and the left eyes were opened in the next 3,5,7 days respectively and the PVEPs were recorded again to find the shift of ocular dominance and whether binocular form deprivation induce the visual cortex plasticity in adult rats.Results The P100amplitudes of the left eyes were gradually declined and those of the right eyes were raised from 3 to 7 days after MD of the left eyes in rats of PW3 group in comparison with before MD ( P<0.01 ).In PW6 groups,no significant changes in P100amplitudes of both the right and left eyes were found in the third day after MD,but significant raise in the right eyes and lowing in the left eyes were seen in the 5 and 7 days after MD in comparison with before MD(P<0.01 ).No any P100changes in both eyes were found in 3-7 days after MD compared with before MD in PW7 rats (P>0.05).The C/I ratio (contralateral VEP amplitude to ipsilateral VEP amplitude in occluded eyes) in the rats of PW3,PW4 and PW5 groups were 1.07±0.15,1.16±0.16 and 1.14±0.15 respectively in 3 days after MD,showing the significant lowing in comparison with before MD (2.69±0.45,2.58±0.4,2.62±0.32) (P<0.01),but those of PW6 and PW7 were unchanged (2.80±0.48 vs 2.90±0.46,2.59 ±0.36 vs 2.90±0.46,P>0.05 ),indicating the absence of ocular dominance plasticity in the adult rats.In rats of PW7 with binocular form deprivation for 14 days,a significant decrease was observed in the C/I ratio in rats with next MD for 3 days,demonstrating that the visual cortex plasticity was reactivated after 14 days of binocular form deprivation in PW7 rats( 1.33±0.18 vs 2.70±0.45,P<0.01 ).Conclusions PVEP can be recorded in Long-Evens rats.It is a major index for identifying the shift of ocular dominance in the Long-Evens rats.Binocular form deprivation can reflect the visual cortex plasticity in the adult rats.

ABSTRACT

The biochemical characteristics of protein factor(PF)purified from 3~5 month fetal liver cellsincluding pH,content of protein molecular weight,sequences of amino acid,?-fetal protein,tracelements and HBsAg,were determined.The PF was tested on the model of duck hepatic B virus anused to treated the rat acute hepatic failure,and its role in inhibiting the PLC cells to secrete HBsAwas tested.The result showed that the PF could meet with the clinical standdar for musculainjection.The PF can suppress the synthsis of hepatitis B virus,increasing the survival rate of animawith hepatic failure,improving liver function,stimulating the synthesis of DNA in liver and speed uthe recovery of liver tissue.

ABSTRACT

Concentrations of TSH in the serum of 47 iron-deficiency children and urinary excretion of 17-KS in 24-hour samples from 64 iron deficiency children were investigated before and after treatment, and compared with that of the normal control group. It was showed that serum concentrations of TSH and 17-KS excretion in iron-deficiency children were abnomally higher than in the nomal control subjects, and they were before treatment than after. After treating, they returned to control levels. It is concluded that iron rather than anemia play a role in the disturbance of TSH and corticoid metabolism of the iron-deficiency children.
